Golden Nugget Signs Sports Betting, iGaming Deal in West Virginia

Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG) has penned a deal with Greenbrier Hotel Corporation that secured the online gaming and sports betting operator with access to West Virginia’s regulated digital gambling market.

Under the terms of a definitive agreement signed recently by GNOG and Greenbrier, GNOG will be able to offer mobile sports betting and digital casino gaming under licenses held by The Greenbrier, a hotel and casino resort located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

The Greenbrier already offers digital sports gambling experience to West Virginia bettors through a partnership with sports wagering giant FanDuel that the casino resort announced last year. FanDuel rolled out a mobile betting app under The Greenbrier’s license in August 2019.

GNOG’s West Virginia market entry is now subject to regulatory approvals. Under the terms of its agreement with The Greenbrier, the online gambling company will pay its local partner a percentage of its online net gaming revenue, subject to minimum royalty payments over the term of the agreement.

An Important Milestone

Commenting on their partnership with The Greenbrier, GNOG owner and Chief Executive Tilman Fertitta said that the deal is “an important milestone” for their online gambling expansion plans and that they look forward to providing West Virginia bettors and players “with our best-in-class product.”

GNOG is the online gambling division of Mr. Fertitta’s Golden Nugget casino empire. The digital gambling operator is set to soon merge with special purpose acquisition company Landcadia Holdings II and go public on NASDAQ.

Greenbrier President Dr. Jill Justice said that they are excited about their new sports betting and online gaming partnership and that given the fact Golden Nugget has already proven itself as a market leader in the industry, they are “confident it will deliver a product that matches the lofty standard that defines” their resort.

GNOG President Thomas Winter added that they are excited to be able to bring their online gambling offerings to the Mountain State and that their entry into West Virginia means that the operator has “access to all four privately operated online casino markets in the country”, with New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania being the other three.

Illinois Expansion

News about GNOG’s entry into West Virginia emerge days after the company announced that it has secured market access to Illinois, which is in the middle of a sweeping transformation.

GNOG said last week it has entered into an agreement with Danville Development, the company selected to build a casino in the east-central Illinois town of Danville.

Under the terms of that agreement, Golden Nugget is set to form a joint venture with Danville Development parent company Wilmot Gaming Illinois to build Danville’s casino. The property will be branded Golden Nugget.

The deal will also enable GNOG to offer online sports betting in Illinois as well as online casino-style gaming, should that practice become legal in the state.
