Online gambling in rapid growth in the US

The gambling industry in the US has seen a huge growth in latest years. The first online casino games have been available to American citizens in the late 1990s, but since then the market has moved many steps forward.

Current legislation in the US

The state of Nevada was the first of all 50 US states to legalize all forms of sports betting, with the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (abbreviated as PASPA) having ensured its special status by allowing only three other states to offer very limited forms of sports betting.

Once PASPA was overruled, many states followed. New Jersey state filled the lawsuit challenging the act and started legalizing all forms of betting. Delaware soon followed and Mississippi was next, like other quick-moving states having already had legislation in place to be ready to go once the anticipated Supreme Court ruling came down. In 2018 West Virginia passed its laws and New Mexico started a few weeks later. Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, up in the prestigious New England territory, made an impact late in 2018.

Last year (2019) was a blooming one, as no less than 12 states plus the Capital District of Columbia chose to legalize gambling and betting from one form or another. These were Arkansas, New York, North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Indiana, New Hampshire, Montana, Tennessee, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan. Currently gambling in almost half of US continental territory.

What about neighboring countries? Canada is largely an unregulated area in terms of online gaming. Meanwhile, Mexico is reviewing its gambling laws, with the aim to regulate the online gambling sector to bring it in line with the rest of the nation’s gambling industry.

Virtual reality online Casinos

The first slot in virtual reality has already appeared in 2017. Hundreds of others have been launched since then. What makes the VR casinos irresistible? The possibility to evade from normal reality, the special effects and the physical and visual interaction with objects.

Gambling through mobile phones

Mobile phones (and tablets) have now substituted traditional desktops. These devices flexibility and adaptability have pushed many punters to try slots for the first time in their life. Indeed, the possibility to play from the comfort of your own home, the addition of many special features and sound effects, make games even more functional and appealing.

USA gambling revenues increased to over $160 billion in 2018. Most gaming experts and financial analysts predict the total revenues for US betting each year will top $200 billion. Regardless of slot machines, sports bets, bingo, or poker, there’s gambling for every taste. According to The American Gaming Association (AGA), the gambling industry in the US is worth $261 billion and supports 1.8 million jobs in 40 states
